I’ve been into many online gaming apps and I’ve notice that still, some Globe/Smart subscribers didn’t know that this type of service exists. They keep bugging other players on how to buy google play apps or purchase in-app items using prepaid load. I’ve experienced it before and sometimes it’s troublesome. So this post is to provide a single reference for both Smart/Globe subscribers on how to enable app or in-app purchase billing using their prepaid load. Note that the same works for postpaid account.
In the past, you should have a credit card registered in your Google Play store account for you to be able to install paid apps or buy items via in-app purchases. This is a harsh reality especially for those users who can afford to buy the apps they want but cannot afford to have a credit card. Luckily, Globe/Smart had recognized the problem. As of this posting it is now possible for their subscribers to make purchases using their existing pre-paid load or charge in their postpaid bill.
To start using this service please follow the steps below. Please note that you need an internet connection (WiFi or data) and your SIM should have sufficient amount of load. For postpaid, your account should be active, of course. For new SIM, you may encounter errors on your first purchase if your SIM is less than 1 week old upon activation. If for some very odd reason and the error still persist, you can contact Google Wallet for declined payments.
Enable Globe/Smart Billing on Google Play
- Open Google Play Store.
- Go to “MyAccount”.
- Under “Payment Methods” choose “Add payment method”
- Choose “Enable Globe Telecom billing” for Globe/TM subscribers or “Enable Smart Communications billing” for Smart subscribers.
- Provide the necessary information (name, address etc) then click “Save”.
- Click “Accept” if all the information you entered are correct.
Note: The steps should be almost the same whether you use Smart or Globe/TM SIM.
For security purposes, you should enable “Require authentication for purchases” to protect you from unauthorized transaction. You can do this by going to “Settings” then under “User Controls” tap the radio button “For all purchases through Google Play on this device”.
Assuming you have done all the steps above and have sufficient amount of load in your prepaid SIM, you can now purchase any app or in-app items using your pre-paid load. Good luck!
