Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE) recently announced a new PlayStation 3 model that was completely redesigned featuring a new architecture enclosed in a slimmer form factor. According to the press release by Sony, the newest version of PlayStation 3 is 50 percent smaller than the first PlayStation 3 60GB model and 25 percent smaller compared to the current PlayStation 3 model.  Also the newest version of the PlayStation 3 was expected to hit local stores worldwide this holiday season and will be available in 3 models; 500GB, 250GB and the newest 12BG flash memory model.

The upgraded storage capacity was intended for the newest game titles produced by numerous third-party developers that are expected to be very rich (high-definition) in digital content that will require more storage space especially the BD (Blu-ray) titles. The list includes Assassin’s Creed III (Ubisoft Entertainment), Call of Duty Black Ops 2 (Activision Publishing Inc.), Madden NFL 13 (Electronic Arts Inc.), PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale, LittleBigPlanet Karting, God of War: Ascension (Sony Computer Entertainment) etc. But obviously with larger storage capacity, you can store more of your personal files like music, photos and video clips on the new PlayStation 3 on top of your choice of full downloaded games.

On the other hand, the newly added PlayStaion 3 12 GB version that utilized a flash memory storage device was specially designed for the budget conscious people. Later on, you can extend this capacity by connecting a dedicated HDD (250 GB) to the gaming console. Take note that if you will be using the dedicated HDD, the built-in 12 GB flash memory storage will become unavailable and vice-versa. The PS3 12GB flash memory model will be initially sold to UK and Hong Kong, but it should be expected to be deployed to other regions as well during the holiday season.

Aside from the storage capacity upgrades and slim design of the new PS3, Sony Computer Entertainment will be developing a wide range of accessories to meet the demands of the customers. One of these PS3 accessories is the vertical stand. For people wanting to have their new PlayStation 3 to be displayed vertically to match with the theme of their entertainment system, you can buy the vertical stand that is sold separately.
