I saw this app flashing a free SMS and calls feature on one of the site that I frequently visit. So I decided to see what this new app can offer by typing ‘TU ME’ in the search bar. After reading the FAQ section of the TU ME site I found out that this is similar to the WhatsApp Android application that we feature couple of weeks ago. This app called TU ME will allow you to send free SMS and calls to your friends given that the receiving end also has the TU ME app installed on his phone. And unlike the WhatsApp, iPhone users can also enjoy free SMS and calls by installing the iPhone version of the TU ME app.
The free SMS & calls via TU ME was also bundled with other services that make it stand-out from other similar apps that provide similar services. By using TU ME service via its Android app or the iPhone version, you can also share photos with your friends. And that’s not all, the history of all SMS or texts and shared photos are presented in a very nice timeline that is similar to Facebook’s timeline.
What’s best about this app is that you can share not just photo and images. With this app you can also share audio messages and even your location via this software. Additionally, all of your conversations are stored online that is free for a one full-year. So even if you re-install the app or change your phone, you can restore all your conversations back to your phone.
I would like to mention again that since this is similar to other software that provides free SMS and calls, it needs a data connection like 3G or WiFi to send free SMS and calls. This can be useful if you already have a WiFi at home or at the office. By using the TU ME service you can cut down on additional cost inflicted by paid SMS and call to your friends. This is the same if you already have a postpaid plan or data plan and you want to extend the SMS and call limit imposed by your respective mobile carriers.
As of this writing only iPhone users with iOS 5.0 version and up are supported as well as all Android users. For people who will likely abuse the TU ME free SMS and calls service, they already imposed a daily fair-use limit to avoid hogging the bandwidth.
If you want to use this app on your PC, you can try installing this app mimicking the method use on this post to utilize WhatsApp on a PC.
What do you think of this new free SMS and calls app with timeline? Will you try this on your phone? What app do you use to send free SMS & calls to your friends? Please tell us what you think by posting your comments below.
