Do you want to send free SMS on top of your current mobile data plan? Don’t know what is WhatsApp? It is a cross-platform mobile messaging app that allows you to send and receive messages without incurring extra charges from your phone bills. You can install this app on almost any mobile OS that you can think of including iOS, BlackBerry, Android, Windows Phone and Nokia handsets.
In this post we will attempt to use this app on a PC so that you can send SMS directly from your PC. This is convenient as well as practical that can boost your productivity if you need to send SMS a lot to your friends or clients.
I have been looking for free SMS for a very long time and luckily I found this post from another WordPress (whatsappforpc) blog. We mentioned before that WhatsApp can only be installed on mobile phones, so how can we use this app to send free SMS from your PC? Already heard of Android emulators? Bluestacks? Youwave? These emulators allow you to install and run Android applications on your Windows PC providing you a virtual environment similar to an Android phone.
Got the idea? By combining WhatsApp and one of these emulators you can now enjoy free WhatsApp messaging from your PC. In this post we choose YouWave because it was found to be the easiest way to install, import and run Android apps on your PC. And if you want to, according to the developer you can also install Android apps straight from the Google Play store.
Listed below are the steps to follow to setup a free WhatsApp messaging on your PC.
Step 1. Download and install YouWave on your PC. You can try this software for several days before the trial period ends.
Step 2. Download the WhatsApp software either from your PC or from within the YouWave emulator. If you choose to download using your PC, locate the WhatsApp.apk file using the YouWave interface via Go to File -> Path to Apps to locate the APK file.
Step 3. Install the WhatsApp software.
Step 4. Setup WhatsApp by entering your location and mobile phone number. Choose ‘voice verification’ in which you will get your verification code via a voice call.
Step 5. Enter the code then send.
You might encounter some problems upon using the emulator but the author was quick to provide them. Below are some of the problems you might encounter and the recommended solution.
- There is no Service Network on the emulator – The service network is not required for WhatsApp unless you intend to use Swype.
- Browser or internet not working on the emulator – Check first if your Internet connection is working. If so then re-install YouWave. But before you do that delete .VirtualBox files from C:UsersYourPCNameVirtualBox directory.
Got it working? If you managed to do so please share us your experiences by posting your comments below. Also if you encountered some problems not listed above please post them here and I will try to check it out for you.
UPDATE: WhatsApp dubbed as the Text killer app already hits 10 Billion messages a day! This figure includes 4B inbound and 6B outbound messages.
