Aside from the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich goodness found on the Samsung Galaxy S III, there’s special software running on top of it that enhances the user experience by providing the user accessibility to a number of features via widgets. Though it gives an impression of a very busy screen when compared to the likes of iPhone (no widget), Windows Phone (no clutter) and ICS (smooth and less busy), many could still like the TouchWiz if they prefer accessibility over a clutter-free screen. Want to try? If you don’t own a Samsung Galaxy S III but want to have the TouchWiz experience on your Android 4.0.x phone, you can try and install Galaxy S III TouchWiz launcher on your Android 4.0.x ICS phone.

This info comes from one of the XDA guys named rani9990 – a college student. According to rani9990, the TouchWiz port has been tested and works successfully on smartphones running Android 4.0.x Ice Cream Sandwich. The list consists of LG Nitro HD, Samsung Captivate, Motorola Droid, Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S, HTC Sensation, Xperia Pro, Motorola Defy, SGS2 LTE, Motorola Milestone, Galaxy Note, Samsung Galaxy S Plus, EVO 4G LTE, HTC EVO 3D, LG-P990, HTC Desire, HTC Rezound and HTC One S (not AOPK). If you managed to get it working on your phone that is not on the list please tell us by posting your comments below.

To get the TouchWiz and the widgets working on your phone, please follow the instructions listed below.

To Do’s

  1. Download the TouchWiz port APK file.
  2. Using file explorer tools like File Expert, copy the file to the ‘/system/app’ folder.
  3. Change the ‘/system’ permissions to ‘rw-r-r’.
  4. Install the TouchWiz port.
  5. Go into Settings > Applications and clear the data for the launcher (recommended by rani9990).
