It seems that Acer is going head to head with Apple when they revealed the specs of their newest Aspire laptop. The Acer Aspire S5 was known to be the world’s thinnest Ultrabook to date. And also according to the company it is the first to include a Thunderbolt port which can be found on the new MacBook Pro. But unlike the new Pro the Acer Aspire S5 was the real winner when it comes to sleekness. If you will remember the new Pro was measured at 0.71 inches at its thinnest point while the Aspire S5 has only 0.44 inches (0.59 thickest). It even beats the new MacBook Air which currently measured at 0.68 inches at its thinnest point.
The LED-backlit screen of the Acer Aspire S5 comes in at 13.3 inches. It is powered by almost the same CPU found in the new Pro – Intel Core i7 -3517U Ivy Bridge processor. In terms of RAM and storage the Aspire S5 was quite a bit short that only has 4GB of RAM coupled with 256GB solid state drive. When it comes to connectivity using cables the Aspire S5 also comes with a Thunderbolt that provides high-speed data transfer compared to standard USB ports. But don’t you worry if you have USB devices; this Ultrabook from Acer also includes USB 3.0 as well as HDMI for your HD TV. These ports can be found safely hidden in an I/O section called the “MagicFlip”.
As you can see the Acer Aspire S5 is not comparable to the new MacBook Pro/MacBook Air when it comes to RAM, speed and storage. But if you can’t afford those Apple products you can opt for the Aspire Ultrabooks that almost cost half of its MacBook Pro counterpart. For the Acer Aspire S5 you will be paying only $1,399.99 when it goes on sale during the last week of the month.
For the budget conscious that can only go $1K, you can still own a decent Ultrabook by choosing the Acer Aspire S3 that will be sold for only $648. Of course you may want to upgrade your Aspire S3 to match the specs of the Aspire S5. If you do, you can optionally upgrade to 256GB SSD plus the Ivy Bridge CPU that will only cost you a maximum priced of $999.99. The Acer Aspire was known to become available starting next week.
What do you think of the Acer Aspire S5/S3? Would you buy this Ultrabooks even if you have the money to buy those MacBook Pro/Air? Tell us what you think by posting your comments below.
