A few days ago a hacker’s operating system was announced via anonymous-os.tumblr.com site to be available for download. The operating system dubbed as Anonymous-OS comes with many built-in hacking tools that can search for website vulnerabilities, simulate denial of service attacks as well as cracking passwords. Though the site claims that it was created for educational purposes only, some Anonymous fans believe that it was created to serve ‘other’ purpose. They believed that it was created by Law enforcement agencies that will help them in bringing down the Anonymous hacking group.
To clear things up, AnonOps breaks the silence today by announcing that Anonymous OS is fake. They used the phrase ‘wrapped in trojans’ meaning that it can be used as ‘backdoor’ connection to hack into each innocent victim who downloaded the alleged hacker’s operating system. If this is true, there are currently 26,000+ potential victims that are just waiting to be hacked. If you don’t believe AnonOps’ claims, you can check sourceforge.net where you can download the Ubuntu-based operating system. But I’m warning you, Anonymous itself disowned this hacker’s operating system. So you’re on your own and your online identity could be at risk.
If you will ask me, I don’t believe that Anonymous-OS was indeed created by Anonymous. First you would notice that they set-up a separate Tumblr site just for this. Why not just announce it in Anonplus.com or AnonOps.blogspot.com? Why put the trouble in creating another site just to host the information regarding this tool? If you’re interested in using a tool to hone your hacking skills, you can try using BackTrack instead.
UPDATE: SourceForge pulls Anonymous-OS to end confusion.
