Remember the classic war games that most of us played a decade ago? Though you might think that I’m referring to Blizzard’s StarCraft which is my favorite, no I’m not. The game I’m talking about was originally created by WestWood and continued by EA Games, yes it’s the classic multiplayer Command & Conquer. The classic game which was developed originally for Windows system was now ported to HTML5 and JavaScript. Meaning we can now create, build and launch war units and relive once again the experience using Chrome & Firefox.
Upon accessing the site, it will take you directly to the start of the game wherein you will be given two light tanks and a base unit. This will serve as your starting point in creating your base adding and building units one at a time. You can control the game the same as before using the left mouse button. Also you can control multiple units and group them together by drawing a rectangle and by using the Ctrl-[0-9] keys.

Command and Conquer Online Game using HTML5
Upon accessing the link to the game portal using Firefox, the game lags and the mouse pointer seems to blink from point to point making it hard for me control the units. I even tried switching from Firefox to Chrome but the experience is the same. So I suspect that I am having problems with my Internet connection at home. I will try this game again when I came back at the office and update you my findings. If you manage to build your base and progress far from the beginning, you can share us your experience with the game by dropping your comments below.
The ported Command & Conquer is currently in version 0.3d and unluckily you cannot invite friends to join you. But the developer – Aditya Ravi Shankar is pushing the development of this game forward so that more features will be included. If you want to help you can volunteer and help Ravi by visiting his site – adityaravishankar.com.
If you enjoyed playing this game and would like to support the continued development of the game with donations/contributions, please use the donate button located on the developer’s site. Every little bit would help.
Update: As promised, I test the game again this time at the office using Firefox and Chrome. I found out that the game flows smoothly without lags using Chrome. Maybe this is the time that I switch from Firefox to Chrome.
Update: July 14 2012 I try playing the game offline and it works!
