Do you want super-fast transfer time of a 25 GB worth of movies (in just 5 minutes) from your computer to your thumb drive? Try using the UX-A032GT and UX-A064GT USB 3.0 from Toshiba that can deliver up to 10 times faster compared to its predecessors. Technically speaking that is roughly 220 megabytes per second (MB/s) read speed and 94 megabytes per second (MB/s) write speed. The ‘super-speed’ USB 3.0 was a huge improvement over USB 2.0 that only has a read-write speed of 34 and 30 MB/s respectively.
In addition to the read-write speed improvements, the power consumption of USB 3.0 devices manufactured by Toshiba was dramatically reduced. To achieve this, they developed low power ASIC controllers in conjunction with dedicated high speed stacking of NAND flash memory. This technology can reduce power consumption that is currently present on power-hungry USB 2.0 devices. With efficient power consumption, laptops can stay longer when operating on internal batteries.
According to Toshiba, these “Super Speed USB” flash memories can be used as external memory storage for Windows systems. Utilizing Windows ReadyBoost technology, these flash memories can function as cache memory that can reduce PC software start-up time and improve the overall performance of Window-based systems. For Mac OS users, you should have OS X version that is above 10.0.2 to utilize these Super Speed USB flash memories from Toshiba.
For the protection of your data from prying eyes, there’s built-in security software that allows you to password lock a particular ‘area’ in your thumb drive. The data stored in that particular area will be hidden from view from people who do not knows the secret code. Interested? You can visit CES for more info about this product from Toshiba. As of now there’s no pricing yet but we should expect for the 32 GB TransMemory-EX drive to be sold at $102 and $150 for the 64 GB version.
