As described by G&D (Giesecke & Devrient) in their press release, it was 60% smaller than the regular SIM card and almost 30% smaller than the Micro-SIM. With the reduced in size different smartphone manufacturers can now create thinner devices, additional internal memory or even larger batteries. “The invention of the SIM card remains a milestone in the history of G&D. Previously to have your regular SIM transferred to a Micro-SIM device, you will just use a SIM cutter that can transform your SIM to a Micro-SIM. But with a Nano-SIM device, it’s not possible. The reason is that Nano-SIM was a lot thinner and lesser in depth than the older SIM technology.
