I never thought that I will be posting an article similar to this. But I cannot stop myself from bringing this topic to the attention of the Filipino people and to the whole world. KOMPYUTERAN.com stands by the side of FDC along with other groups such as the Initiatives for Dialogue and Empowerment Through Alternative Legal Services Inc. (Ideals, Inc.), Akbayan Citizen’s Action Party, Alliance of Progressive Labor and Akbayan Representative Walden Bello in preventing the privitization of Angat Dam.
While the Supreme Court already issued a status quo ante against Angat’s sale to Korea Water Resources Development Corp. (K-Water) last August 9 2010, yesterday March 26 2011 the petitioners ask the SC to permanently ban the privatization of a 218-megawatt hydroelectric power plant in the Angat Dam in Bulacan.
We all know that the Angat Dam watershed provides a huge percentage of water supply not only for the Bulakenos but to the whole Metro Manila. During the last water crisis, we even pray for rains to come so that the critical level on the reservoir would be lifted. But what’s happening right now? Some people are cheating on us by letting foreigners(K-Water a Korean Company) to take over Angat Dam. I do not know what they’re thinking but we should not let Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. (Psalm) to do their dirty job. I think what the government has to do is to seek assistance from other countries like Japan to further develop our technologies to provide good service to the people. Privitization is not the solution. And should not be an option. We should learn to perform our job well so that we can hope for a better world for the next generation to come.
What I’m feeling right now is that MWSS, NIA, PSALM along with K-Water is stabbing all Filipinos dependent on Angat Dam on the back. It’s their job to seek better ways of providing potable water to the public. And what are they doing? Let foreign people do their job while keeping it’s pocket full? What a shame to you guys. Do they really have to turn over the “power”, the “control” to these people? I doubt that K-Water has the concern for the Filipinos, and we all know when somebody says “business and business”. And I also doubt that right now PSALM, NIA and MWSS is not working for the interest of the Filipino people.
In this matter, I think the President has to deal with it and finally decide to prevent Angat Dam privitization. Again it’s not the solution and should not be an option for the government when the interest of the Filipino people is at stake.
Angat DAM is NOT FOR SALE! Mabuhay ang mga Pilipinong may pagmamahal sa bayan!
